Research

Topics
We focus on sustainable human habitat and the design of environmentally and socially sound built environment. Namely, we are interested in the

  • ecological and social performance of designed architectural and urban spaces, functions and services;
  • environmental upgrading of desolate or inconvenient pieces of architecture, land-, water-, and cityscape;
  • assessing and interpreting of cultural and societal circumstances for integration into design and for the creation of place-specific and locally sustainable projects;
  • investigation, understanding and creation of biomimetic design, which we are bringing into China via the BiDL (Biomimietic Design Lab) at Tongji University;
  • developing sustainability methods and tools to integrate above issues into design teaching and professional practice in China;
